Science For All
Research and Empowerment Collective
Tacoma, WA
Empowering ordinary people to become citizen scientists and make discoveries which can transform their communities, in an accessible and supportive learning environment.
We believe that knowledge is power, that anyone can learn to make scientific discoveries, and that we can use science to make our communities a better place for everyone who lives in them. We strive to do this in a way that is:
Empowering
We are not simply providing people with information, but helping them learn to create the information necessary to take concrete action towards increasing control over their lives, and to proactively address needs in their community.
Accessible
We provide a supportive and inviting atmosphere which is open to anyone who is interested in working to make Tacoma a better place.
Intentional
Our actions are grounded in systematic striving for continuous improvement, and the use of evidence-based best-practices and up-to-date scientific knowledge.
How You Can Get Involved
Participate in the Action Science Accelerator Program
An intensive evening and weekend program where we will train you to lead your own science project and help you carry it out. We will help you come up with an idea for a research project, and design, implement, and publicize the results of that project. Everyone who completes this program will have a report describing their finished research project, and will have the skills necessary to lead additional projects in the future.
Volunteer with an ongoing project
Join an ongoing citizen science project, and work with scientist mentors and nonprofit and community-based organization sponsors who are working on research projects to Tacoma a better place for everyone who lives here. There is no minimum time commitment. If you want to volunteer, we will help you find a way to contribute to making Tacoma a better place.
Workshops & Presentations
Free to attend weekend workshops, evening presentations, and social media content promoting our sponsored projects and providing other opportunities to learn and get involved in citizen science around Tacoma.
